How to Understand Grafton Greyhound's Racing Records?

 There is a racing record when a greyhound takes part in one or more official races. The record shows which track the greyhound has competed at, the dates where the greyhound finished the race and the grade of every race. This grading system ensures that Grafton greyhounds are running in races with all other greyhounds of the same speed so that the races remain competitive. The male and female greyhounds race together and in the same race, irrespective of their sizes.

Thus, you will see a small 60lb. female race against a 90lb male. This happens a lot. The shocking part is that the smaller dog wins. The larger dogs will have higher strides, a lot of times, smaller and more agile greyhounds will be able to manoeuvre through the pack, and they can run more quickly through the corners than their larger counterparts. The larger Grafton greyhounds might run wide and lose the race.

The Gradings of Greyhound Racing

When the greyhounds start racing, they start their race at Grade M. This means maiden. This grade is for greyhounds that haven't officially won a race. When a greyhound wins a race, it will shift to Grade D, then to Grade C, B and A, respectively, according to their wins. Grade A is for the fastest dogs. There are a lot of tracks that have grades like Grade AA races, Grade J races and Grade E races.

The Grade J races are only for greyhounds starting their careers. Few greyhounds will compete in the top races, also known as the stake races, indicated on the racing records with an S. There are some Grafton greyhounds that earn thousands of dollars for their racing kennels and owners. The grades of the greyhound go up and down according to how they finish each race.

A grade D racer on one track can be a Grade B racer on a less competitive track. When a Grafton greyhound doesn't finish within the 1st to 4th place in a Grade M, Grade E or Grade D race for a consecutive number of times according to the rules set by the track, the Grafton greyhound is "graded off" from the track.
